Points on a Curve
Hi Ho, Kermit the Frog here......Ok, no so much. Now that I've had some time to catch up on sleep denied me by the god awful futon I slept on last week end on Martha's Vineyard(I awoke feeling like by body had been pummeled by a thousand tiny fists), I can get on with my life and post something.
Tour of the Vineyard:Aside from the futon on death, the first ride of the year went much better than I expected. Much to my surprise, I felt rock solid on the 55 mile ride. I even did my fair share of pulling...go figure! The only down side to the day was the temperature. You see, when we left the house to go down to the start (a 2 mile ride) the sun was out and it was cool but nice. So, I slathered on the sun screen and donned my short sleeved team jersey. As soon as we were lining up to get started, the clouds rolled in and the temp dropped about 10 degrees. By the time we were about half way through, my arms were all sorts of pink from the cold. Fortunately, we happened across a cycle shop and Ass Master Guin-Ass generously stepped up and bought me some arm warmers.
My Wrestling Career:I also had an epiphany last weekend, a moment of clarity and perhaps a glimpse into the future. The story goes like a this: Friday night, five of us who were doing the ride the next day went out to eat at the most awesome Tex Mex joint, Zapotec. We were sitting at the bar, waiting for our table. The place was packed to the gills with happy folks eating enchiladas, buritos et. al. . Eric (GP Ass) was giving me the usual ration of shit about...well....everything. He was making the wise crack that I'd some how missed my calling as a Catholic Priest. However, because of the overwhelming noise in the place what I heard was that I'd missed my calling as Captain Crease. Then It came to me, he was right! Ya..hey..wait a minute! By gum, this is my chance to make something of myself! I will dominate the wrestling world as CAPT CREASE! This is how I'll look!:)
The End of Things:On a sadder note I'm losing two constants in my life. First, this weekend marked the end of Star Trek Enterprise. Though this was not the best of the Treks nor my favorite, it was still Star Trek and thus I loved it. This will be the first time in 17 years that there will be not new Trek to look forward to. I am in mourning.
The second thing that I'm losing is my doctor. I've been seeing him for 15 years and really like him. But, he's leaving his practice to go into an administrative position. I'm gonna miss him alot
.
Wait for it...

Cannondale Trifecta
So here's what's been up this week in bike land:
- Finally, good weather!! I've actually been able to ride on four, count'em, FOUR consecutive days....wohoooooo!
- My newly tricked out Cannondale feels almost like a new bike; shifting is crisp and precise, I'm getting better power transmision and it's more comfy; not to mention the fact that I think I now have the shinyest cassette on earth!
- Yesterday I got to go to a Cannondale Demo in Haverhill. They showed up with a trailer load of their newest rides. I figured they'd let you cruise around the parking lot or let you go do a mile or two on them. To my surprise, they really wanted you to go out and put them through their paces. So, I ended up doing two 12 miles loops. The first on a Six 13 Team. This is their high end model with carbon tubes and CAAD 8 Optimo lugs. This bike was sooo much better than the Six 13 I took out last summer. It felt lighter, stiffer and more responsive. For the second loop, I got the privilege of riding one of their brand new, all carbon Synapse's. This bike was a wet dream to ride; super light, super smooth and this beauty wanted to climb. I just amazed me how much easier climbing was on this machine. The other thing that I really dug about this bike was the compact crank(50/36 on the front instead of the standard 53/39); I'm totally sold on that concept. So, when the day finally comes that I can actually afford a new rig, I think I'm gonna have to start from square one again.
So, now I'm off to Martha's Vineyard for my first Ride of the year, wish me luck:)
Wow..and I thought I sucked!
I saw this little grammar quiz over on
RogueSlayer's site and just had to try it out. I'm stunned seeing as i can't spell to save my sorry ass!

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

Ok Enough Moisture Already
OK, I like moisture as much as the next guy but this weather bullshit has just got to stop. Last weekend was a wash, this week has totally sucked and this weekend is also trash. I am so frigging behind on mileage this year it's not funny. My first ride of the year is a week from Saturday and I only have just over 100 mile logged so far; pathetic.
Jacob's Ladder my Ass
The skies, they mock me I tell you. Friday night I go pick my bike up at the shop, it's all decked out with brandy new hardware; A new
Selle Italia Pro Link saddle,
Bontrager Race stem and
Shimano 105 drive train (I know, not as sexy and flashy as
Dura Ace or Full of Mystique as
Ultegra, but it's a good work horse groupo that I can actually afford). I got the bike all adjusted and did a fit with my new shoes (
SIDI Dominator 4's) to make sure everything was as it should be for my riding pleasure. Awesome, now I'm ready to rock! Of course at this point it's getting dark so I figure "no problem, it's only supposed to rain Saturday overnight, I've got 2 days to play with my new stuff". Saturday, It rains like a bastard starting at NOON...NOON mind you, not after 5p.m. like my local weather prognosticator had lead me to believe. OK, whatever, I have a training ride on Sunday at 10A.M., since the rain started so early, it will defiantly clear out by then. Sunday morning comes, It's still cloudy but the streets are starting to dry, Perfect. I check the weather radar on line, look like we have one more
little tiny cell coming through..no biggy. So I drive down to Waltham to meet the rest of the crew, once again, the skies open up, now it's raining harder than the day before. To spite my explanation of the situation on radar, the crew bags. (Sigh) OK, I'll just go home and wait for an hour or so, then ride by myself. I wait ....and wait..... and wait. At 3:30 I'm still in my cycling cloths sitting in front of my PC playing World of Warcraft getting REALLY hungry. Seeing as it's still drizzling I say screw it,change out of my gear, take a shower, grab some lunch and a beer. Not 15 minute later, the friggin sun comes out.. AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
