  Devil's Food for Thought
Oy work,work,work,work,work,work,work....I'm f'ing swamped! But, in the midst of my own personal brand of chaos, I had these two thoughts:

1. How did things start rearing their respective heads? I mean the rear and the head are at opposite ends right? so if your head is up, your rear is down. Rearing your head actually some more like a colloquialism for having ones head up one ass, no?

2. Devil's food cake: Are we to believe that the Lord of Darkness and the Underworld's official food source is moist delicious chocolatey cake? Why is he not morbidly obese and diabetic ? Why can we get it at the local super market instead of have to make a voyage across the river Styx to the Underworld Entemann's?

Oh we'll back to it........

  Stress Boy Lives
We'll here I am on the first vacation I 'd had since last October. It' s not a "go some where" kind of vacation, it's a "sleep late and laze around the house" kind of vacation. Well, at least that's what I told myself it was going to be. Leave it to me to find this kind of vacation stressful. " How is that possible?" you may ask. Well first off, when it comes to stress, I'm the king baby. I think I forgot how to relax somewhere around the time I forgot my high school locker combination. This time off has me stressed because I feel like " this is my shot to do all those things I wish I was doing while I'm at work". I feel like there's a million things I should be doing so as not to waste this precious little time to myself. I feel like if I just hang out and read I'm somehow being a total slacker, that's right McFly, a slacker. I know this nuts, I really do; I just don't know how to shake it though. Hummpf.

  The Pleasure Principal
So there I was a few days ago drinking a cup of free coffee at some event. I happened to notice that on the small paper cup that I sipped this mediocre beverage was the warning " Caution: Contents may be Hot and Delicious." This struck me as odd and very presumptuous on their part. Let's break this down:

1. Caution: Contents may be Hot. This part I'll give them. I this age of nuisance law suits they're just covering their butts. The contents MAY be hot, they might be luke warm but hey, who knows. If they're hot, don't do something stupid like playing quarters with the contents and scald the crap out of your esophagus. If you do, don't blame us, your an idiot and we warned you. Fair enough.

2. Caution: Contents may be delicious. Now what exactly are they trying to protect me from here? Are they worried that I may swoon in ecstasy and lose consciousness, only to wake up and find myself naked and wrapped in cellophane? Or perhaps they're afraid that this wonderful tasty beverage my cause me to sport wood in public, causing me great ridicule as passers by laugh and point at my trousers now become a circus tent?

Personally I think that theses guys are ego maniacs for thinking that they actually have to warn me of possible impending pleasure; the coffee really wan't all that good. It could just as easily say "Caution: Contents may be Hot and Taste like Dead Ass." But hey, that's just me.

  A Post About Nothing
You've probably noticed that there have been cavernous stretches in between post these days. This is a sad reflection of my life as it is. There has been nothing of great interest happening. Sigh. Oh sure, I could post about the piece of cat hair that stuck into my big toe as if it were a piece of steel wool, or how about the lack of mixing going on the past 3 week on my CD. Some how these things don't seem very interesting and I'm not going to post for the sake of posting...except this once...sort of....because..ummmmm....ya

Gimme Shelter - The 2005 SeaCoast Safari
I just finished this years' Sea Coast Safari 150 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This is the third year that I've participated and the fourth year the event has taken place. It's great to see that every year the number of riders just about doubles. This year there were about 80. It was a different ride for me this year since it was the first time I've done it solo. Two years ago I did it with Bob (Wise Ass) and last year I did it with Rachel (Buzz) . The first 10 miles or so was kind of chaotic as everyone shuffled around then finally settle into their respective pace lines. By the time we hit the coast ( and the head wind) I was fortunate to have hooked up with a 12 man pace line. Considering that most of the group were strangers to me and to each other, everyone worked really well together. Each guy taking about three miles at the front then dropping to the back of the line. I did my turn from about miles 16-19 and felt suprisingly strong, stamping out a 19 MPH tempo. Things changed when this dude with 9 foot legs took over and upped the tempo to about 23; then group then splintered. The first group of 8 guys broke away while I ended up in a chase group of 4 . We all agreed to keep the pace a little more reasonable. We stayed together for the rest of the way up to Bidderford ME each taking our turn pulling. At about Mile 60 the heavy pace of earlier that day started to catch up with me and the outside of my left knee started giving me grief but I made it to the end without too much trouble.

The overnight at University of New England was great as always. Lots of food, beer, great ocean views and comfy dorm rooms. The ride back was equally as good. I decided to change my peddling strategy a little and opted for a slightly higher cadence than usual to keep some of the stress off my knee. Steve and Ron ( from the first days' group ) and I hooked up with 2 other guys and this dude Greg. Greg Had been the first one in the day before, finishing in 41/2 hours; my group took 5 3/4. Greg did a monster pull and set tempo THE WHOLE WAY BACK! Unreal. The guy was un-freekin-believable.

All in all I had a blast and got some of my confidence back to boot. Not too Shabby.......
